Is Camel Milk The Next Craze?

Is Camel Milk The Next Craze?

I hope so! The next milk and perhaps the best and healthiest of them all has just entered the USA marketplace in early 2014 with anticipations of being available, everywhere! Introducing Desert Farms camel milk. They appeared at the Fancy Food Show NY in June 2015 and I was welcomed to taste the nutritious camel milk similarly how a baby camel takes their journey to adulthood, but I'm a human. To all you almonds, coconuts, hemp, rice and cows out there, just don't get jealous of these actions!

These USA Farmed camels are seasonally grass fed, 100% raw and not pasteurized keeping the milk non homogenized by very carefully handling milk and getting into packaging and market quickly. Desert Farms uses BPA free plastic and PETE recyclable focussing on sustainability as much as possible and support nation wide and California local USA farmers who farm one hump camels, not two humps :) These camels are not fed hormones: rBST, rBGH, and are GMO free signifying a commitment against chemical and GMO lords who ruin our food supply.

What Does Camel Milk Taste Like?

The milk is raw, fresh and let's say a little bit gamey if you get my drift. Not quite, but almost as if you're aware the animal is therein :) Camel milk posses the raw aroma of the wild beast, but very refreshing and smooth at the same time. I would 100% recommend it for the taste and the health benefits! Read more below.

I had asked how they test and verify camel milk for gluten. Like most companies who have all natural gluten free ingredients they told me they are very careful. They have not obtained a gluten free certification quite yet, but are considering it with new funding for increased distribution and larger product line. Would camel milk have gluten in it?  It should not just like a cow's milk. It's the risk of contamination and the control of the supply chain from farm - manufacturing - bottling facility that can be the troublesome. Gladly, they are very considerate of all food allergies and understand Celiac Disease. They're doing their best as they increase production and we will watch to see, perhaps conducting a test soon.

Are Desert Farm Bottles Recycleable: Desert Farms bottles are 100% recyclable, and our sights are set on using fully recycled materials in our future packaging. We seek to recycle, reuse and repurpose.

How Long Does Camel Milk Stay Fresh: Once you receive your order you can store your fresh milk for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator or you can freeze it for up to 6 months in the freezer. Once thawed or defrosted it is best to consume your milk within 3 to 5 days. If you receive your milk frozen the best way to thaw or defrost it is by placing it in the refrigerator overnight or you can place it in a bowl of warm water and let it sit for a couple of hours. Once the milk has been defrosted it is completely normal for the fat to separate, just shake and drink up.

Where Is Desert Farms Produced: We work with Amish and other family farms nationwide. Each bottle is milked, bottled and packaged at the farm to ensure the delicate camel milk is not exposed to contamination. Our camel milk is not and will never be shipped to a third-party contractor for bottling. We try to limit the number of people dealing with your products to ensure freshness and purity.

Are Desert Farms Gluten & Wheat Free: We make every effort to ensure that Desert Farms products are free of wheat, wheat gluten, rye, oats, barley and malt. While it is virtually impossible to be certain that each bottle is 100% free of all gluten, Desert Farms products are suitable for most people with wheat and gluten allergies. People with severe allergies should consult a doctor before introducing a new food. (Note: They may seek a gluten free certification with new funding)

Camel Milk Closest to Human's Milk?*: Camel and human milk samples (twenty individuals’ samples each) were analyzed for fat, total protein (casein, whey protein), lactose, minerals as well as vitamins; B1, B2, niacin and C. Results indicated that camel milk contained higher fat, protein (especially casein), ash, Ca, Mg, P, K, Na, Fe, and Cu. It can be concluded that camel milk can be considered as a good food of high nutritive and therapeutic applications. Meanwhile, the high content of antimicrobial agents in camel milk may explain its potential as an antiviral activity especially against diarrhea-causing viruses (*Note*: talk to your doctor prior to changing any baby/child regimen)
