Scary Costumes? Sure. But Scary Candy? No way.

Every Halloween, we spend weeks prepping costumes, porch decor, and party plans... but what about the actual stuff we give our kids to eat?  🎃  Let’s Be Honest With Each Other. 🍬  Start rethinking everything you were told about a very dirty little holiday in America.

  • Most American Halloween candy is ultra-processed, artificially colored, and loaded with bad sugar and cheap, empty ingredients.
  • Many of these brands use high-fructose corn syrup, petroleum-based dyes, and inflammatory oils.
  • And yet most of Americans hand it out like tradition gives it a free pass.

Parents—It’s Time to Reflect:

  • Why do you keep buying the same candy brands when we know they’re made from low quality ingredients? If you didn't know, this is a wake up call to learn about food, ingredients and make better choices for yourself and others.

  • What makes it okay “just because it’s Halloween” or “a special occasion”? No such thing as a cheat day. You make conscious decisions to consumer anything so take responsibility and own it. Don't tell others to do what you do.

  • If we wouldn’t let our kids eat this stuff on a random Tuesday, why is it fine on October 31st—in mass amounts? Common sense applies all year round. Plus, if you are not in tune with your stomach, GI and bowel movements then it's time to grow up and become a real adult who is smarter tomorrow than yesterday.

  • Are we afraid of disappointing our kids, or other parents? Or are we just stuck in an outdated tradition? Sounds like a weak person response. It's not enough to have a great job, educated and a nice car, home or clothes. Your body is a temple and you should never spoil it with junk, and toxicities but if you do willingly reconsider more of your choices.

You don’t have to be perfect. But you can do better.

  • Choose cleaner candy: Brands like YumEarth, Unreal, SmartSweets, and Free2b offer better-for-you options that still feel festive.
  • Rethink the reward: Make Halloween about memories, adventures, themes and gamify it, so that it is not just sugar—host a treat trade-in for books, toys, or safer snacks.
  • Lead by example: Kids model what we normalize. If you care about ingredients the rest of the year, don’t hit pause on Halloween.

Candy shouldn’t get a pass just because it wears a costume. Let’s create healthier traditions—because our kids are worth it. Let's reshape the tradition so that candy companies aren't the only winners during this season. Turn a fun themed dress up holiday into a learning, exciting scavenger hunt of fun.

🧩 Design A Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt Game

Instead of just walking house to house, kids solve clues, riddles, or find themed items that lead them to the next house, station, or yard decoration.

  • 🔍 Clues example:

    • “Find the house with 3 pumpkins and a ghost — your next treat awaits the most!”

    • “The witch with the broom is hiding your next prize — check near the spiders with glowing eyes!”

✏️ Hand Out Mini School & Art Supplies (Paper or Wood-Based)

  • Thought starters:

    • Unpainted wooden pencils (decorate with a washi tape “costume”)

    • Recycled paper notepads or mini sketchbooks

    • Origami paper squares in Halloween colors

  • Why it works: Useful, creative, and plastic-free. Encourages imagination and learning.

  • Eco Bonus: Fully recyclable or compostable!

🌱 Hand out Seed Packets or Plantable Paper

  • Thought starters:

    • DIY wildflower or herb seed packets

    • Shaped plantable paper confetti (ghosts, pumpkins, leaves)

  • Why it works: Grows long after Halloween ends!

  • Eco Bonus: 100% compostable and educational.
